Ow! shouted the Tsar when a stray dog bit him in his leg. Or was it on purpose? He lost his leg and couldn’t keep up appearances which led to a blood curdling climax in the city Poetivl.

‘Stray dogs’ inspired by the story by Toon Tellegen “The dog who bit the Tsar’s leg” in the collection “The train to Pavlovsk and Oostvoorne”. (Querido , 2000)

The performance shows why a tsar who has become crazy wipes out almost all the whole dog population in Russia except for sheep dogs.

‘Stray dogs’ is an exciting, surrealistic dance performance including polyphonic barking and growling dogs, choruses, arias and duets. A performance in which dance and singing appear on stage as equal partners and the horse meat flies through the air.

How do we deal with our feelings of revenge and lack of empathy. How can we tame our ego for the greater good and how do we embrace the people who are “different”.
